WOODLANDS offers a highly specialised therapeutic environment for the care, supervision and treatment of young people who have sexualised histories.
Our programmes have an inherent structured framework yet are tailored to the individual young person's needs. The aim of the programme is to halt the young person's pattern of harmful behaviour by improving confidence and self esteem, cognitive restructuring, and helping him develop the skills and strategies to control potentially abusive behaviours.
We look forward to meeting you
In working with the young person it is important to understand their behaviour in the context of him as a whole person. It may also require working with his family and significant others.
All young people referred to us will undertake an outreach assessment as to their suitability to be offered an initial sixteen-week residential placement. If following such a period, it is felt that the young person is appropriately placed at, then a long-term placement will be offered.
WOODLANDS also has a proven track record in successfully providing remand and post-sentence placements for boys charged and/or convicted of serious sexual offences. We have also worked with parole cases following part-completion of custodial sentences.
Our external clinical therapeutic consultant affords qualitative and experienced support to our Therapists and Care Staff alike.
Programmes offered at WOODLANDS are as follows:
16-week residential comprehensive assessment (a requirement for all boys referred to Woodlands). The assessment will necessarily include input from the care staff, our educational advisor and the therapist allocated to work with the boy. Contributions will sought from the placing authority's social worker, professionals such as YJS or CAMHS, parents or significant others and of course the young person himself.
Therapeutic Programmes - up to 3 years.
Post-Custodial Sentence Programmes.
Relapse Prevention/Moving-on Programmes
Foster care and parent training
External Clinical Therapeutic Consultancy
Our ratio of therapists to young people is possibly, the best in the country.
Additionally our therapists are all salaried in-house staff and not external to the organisation, thereby allowing a genuinely therapeutic milieu to exist. We also work closely with our consultant child psyphologist who screens and assesses all young people at woodlands on admission and on going throughout thier placement.
