Every Friday 2 students will cook lunch for any who want to eat ‘school dinner’ at Woodlands. Staff and students enjoy a variety of homemade food including pizza, pasties, scones and cream, chilli, pasta bakes etc. The students who cater will learn basic cooking and baking skills as well as do their level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate online.
On the 3rd Friday of every month the 2 students who ‘cater’ will be involved in catering for a luncheon club in a nearby community. They set up, prep food and serve the customers before helping to clear away and returning to school. All who attend luncheon club appreciate the students’ involvement and have been known to be quite generous with seasonal gifts and tips!!
At the end of term the catering team will prepare a ‘seasonal’ feast for the Friday school dinner. The whole environment is relaxed and convivial with social skills and team-work especially evident.
